Individual Therapy
Listed below are some of the interventions and strategies utilized in counseling.
Cognitive Restructuring.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) operates on the assumption that it’s not what happens to us that makes us unhappy, anxious, or depressed, rather, it’s how we think about what happens to us. Cognitive restructuring techniques focus on increasing awareness, challenging the accuracy of troublesome thoughts, and developing a more mindful awareness with the goal of lessening the frequency and intensity of difficult emotions.
Internal Family Systems.
Just like a family is made up of different individuals with their own unique personalities and roles, our internal world is composed of different parts. Each part has its own specific qualities, desires, and intentions. IFS therapy allows us to get to know these parts with curiosity, calm, and compassion to help them heal. Ask yourself if you’ve ever said “a part of me wants to but another part doesn’t…”
Coping Strategies.
Positive coping skills help to work through difficult circumstances in a healthy way. This involves identifying coping skills that best fit your lifestyle and individual needs. Common coping skills include meditation, mindfulness, physical activity, spending time in nature. This process often involves gradually replacing unhealthy coping skills with healthy ones.
Goal/Progress Review.
Collaborating on goal-setting for desired therapy outcomes and periodically reviewing progress towards goals.
Identifying Triggers.
An emotional trigger is any experience that makes us feel uneasy. These triggers may invoke feelings of anger, shame, or envy. Triggers often point to underlying issues that can be addressed in therapy. We will work together to identify situations that cause a significant reaction and develop strategies to cope in a triggering situation.
Stress Management.
Encompassing a diverse array of techniques and programs designed to help you deal with life stressors in a more effective and proactive way. We will examine specific sources of stress and take action to reduce their effects. Stress management practices can significantly improve quality of life. Meditation, yoga, physical exercise, setting healthy boundaries, and affirmations are examples of a few of the more widely practiced stress management approaches.
